Original Text: UN CRIME IMPARDONNABLE.
Translation: An unpardonable crime
The Chinese legislators, in their immensely philantropic attitude, showed in a most touching manner their feelings for game in general and in particular for the fate of the sandpiper, as if this was their personal concern. Consequently each Chinese killing a sparrow - even for legitimate defense - is put behind bars and charged with a severe punishment unless he can prove that he had permission from the mandarin of the village, the owner of the field, of the chief of police and of the sparrow!
