A vous, messieurs, je m'adresse ce soir,
Vous avez tant d'esprit, tant de finesse;
A vous, messieurs, notre orgueil, notre espoir,
Je viens ici confesser ma faiblesse;
Ah donnez-moi juge trop indulgent,

Un bouclier contre bien des attaques;
Donnez-moi, public obligeant,
Vos soins, vos conseils... votre argent;
Et surtout donnez-moi des claques.
