Au rebours des guerriers qui marchent d'ordinaire
En tête de leur peloton;
Thésée en royal rejeton
Marchait après le sein pour se tirer d'affaire.

Translation:
THE THREAD OF ARIADNE.
Normally a general, full of pride
marches ahead of the warriors side.
Theseus as royal offspring valued his life dear
and marched behind his own in the rear.
