Tout voyageur qui aborde un port de la Chine est immédiatement conduit, comme un malfaiteur, entre deux haies de curieux au bureau des douanes, mais à peine a-t-il touché le sol du céleste empire, qu'il devient la proie des porteurs de bagage, des garçons d'hotels, des interprêtes, des commissionnaires et autres détrousseurs autorisés par la police chinoise.

Every traveller arriving at a port in China is immediately conducted like a thief between two rows of spectators to the passport office.
