"Une des curiosités de Francfort qui disparaîtra bientôt j'en ai peur, c'est la boucherie, il est impossible de voir un plus splendide amas de chair fraîche. Les bouchers sanglants et les bouchères roses causent avec grace sou des guirlandes de gigots. Un ruisseau rouge dont deux fontaines jaillissantes modifient à peine la couleur, coule, et fume au milieu de la rue!"

TRAVEL IMPRESSIONS OF A GREAT POET.
One of the curiosities of Frankfurt which will soon disappear, I fear, is the butchery; it is hardly possible to see a more splendid mass of fresh meat anywhere. The bloody butchers and the pink butchers' wives chatting away with grace under garlands of legs of lamb. A red river from which two fountains spring, hardly transforming the colour, flows and smokes into the middle of the street!
